Ocean Warrior Project Welcomes Ian Herbert Jones as

Ocean Expedition Consultant

Plymouth UK 16th October 2024 - The Ocean Warrior Project, a leading marine conservation initiative dedicated to scientifically measuring, benchmarking, monitoring, and reporting on the World's oceans in near-real-time from un-sampled extreme areas, is thrilled to announce the addition of Ian as its new Ocean Expedition Consultant. With a unique blend of adventure sailing and corporate experience, Ian brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team.

Ian's hugely impressive resume includes over 100,000 sea miles of sailing experience, having completed what he describes as 2.75 circumnavigations of the globe. His recent participation in the Ocean Globe Race (OGR) and the Golden Globe Race (GGR) has solidified his reputation as a skilled sailor and leader. In the OGR, Ian helped lead a team to a 1st in Class & 2nd overall win, while in the GGR, he spent over 7 months alone at sea, rounding Cape Horn and ultimately being rescued in the South Atlantic after a dramatic storm capsized and dis-masted his yacht.

In addition to his sailing credentials, Ian brings over 20 years of experience in the enterprise and telecommunications software space, holding numerous leadership roles in both start-ups and established businesses in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the USA.

"Joining the OceanWarrior Project as their Ocean Expedition Consultant is a great opportunity," said Ian. "I’m excited to be able to support the project's mission to properly explore the world's oceans, particularly in the high arctic where data is still so limited." “I would really encourage anyone who would like to support the project, or who might like to join as crew for the2025 season to reach out to me directly”.

As Ocean ExpeditionConsultant, Ian will work closely with the Ocean Warrior Project's marine partners, providing guidance on all aspects of sailing, from vessel and crew selection to routing and passage planning. His insights and experience will be invaluable in supporting the project's exploration efforts and inspiring a new generation of ocean advocates.

"We are thrilled to haveIan on board," said Jim McNeill, Founder of the Ocean Warrior Project."His unique blend of sailing and corporate experience makes him an ideal fit for our team, and we know that his expertise will help us further our mission.
